Local Artist Bonnie Hanson Dazzles the Monrovia Winter Wonderland Holiday Show

Meet Bonnie Hanson Local artist who will be attending the Monrovia Winter Wonderland Holiday Show at St. Luke.

“Throughout my life I have dabbled in most things creative. I have worked as a singer, songwriter, visual arts educator, dance instructor, costume designer, painter, photographer, choreographer and jewelry designer. My fascination with fabrics, buttons, beads and trims is a direct result of my work as a costume designer. When designing for the theatre its all about crazy color combinations, fabric textures, variety, contrast and details. Everything must “pop”. Through this work I have developed a keen eye for combining colors, textures and patterns that are quirky but work. Another aspect of costuming is the need to scour thrift stores and swap meets. Through my frequent visits I found myself drawn to vintage necklaces and beads that I could re-purpose into jewelry. Most recently I have become obsessed with vintage and antique buttons. Each button has it’s own story, color, texture, embellishments and patina. Combine them into a single piece of adornment and you have bits of history transformed into a visual feast that sparkles, dangles and dazzles. Each piece is one of a kind, telling it’s own story. ”

Sondra Theodore Creates Beutiful Pieces For You Home! TBA Monrovia Holiday Show December 6th

While caring for her mother after her fathers death Sondra decided she wanted to keep her fathers old desk. “But i really didn’t care for it, old … but not quite old enough to be cool. I set about to paint it.” With some guidance from an old friend , the desk turned out great . So much so , she hardly could believe she had painted it . “This “old friend” of mine happened to have been an art director for many years , it was under his encouragement that “ReVamped by Theodore ” was created. Not believing myself to be good enough for the title of Artist , I had only ever considered myself a creative person. Once I made the decision to try this , it had to be nothing or all. So I have thrown myself into the business of Revamping . ”
It was her grandmother who got me started painting , as a little girl she gave her all her glass figurines and 50 cents to go to the corner store for a paint set. “After i finished with her figurines she gave me rocks to paint . I have seen things around me as potential paint projects ever since !”  But for now she will stick to furniture ! And she am proud to say , Yes I am an Artist !!

Azzi Wise of How Girly Jewelry makes Monrovia Winter Wonderland Holiday Show Sparkle!

Azzi Wise has been designing jewelry, accessories and clothing for over 20 years! Cool baubles that defined when women went from revolutionary chic bobs to the styles of Glamorous Hollywood styled by the likes of Givenchy, Edith Head and others reminiscent of Breakfast at Tiffany’s to letting the tresses fly free at Woodstock!

You will find jewelry and accessories designed just for hands, ears, feet and beyond. Come find out “how girly” I can get with my designs!

How Girly Jewelry is the shop of handmade Jewelry from a variety of different vintage beads, pearls, crystal, copper, organic materials, semi precious and precious gemstones. A little chat with Monika of the Monrovia French Market

A chat with Monika of the French Market of Monrovia

Monika how did you discover your art?

“I needed a plant stand and I had pieces of wood gathered during my trash searches. I thought of making a bench. It could not be just a dull surface and I thought of mosaicking the surface with fleur de lys patterns, with available tile colors.
That is how I started. From tiles I went to shards and more and more ideas erupted and overwhelmed me. The more I created the busier my imagination has got. Here I am embellishing frames, jars, boxes and more with floral designs, mostly. But I have dreams. I make the mosaics when time allows and I shall probably soon step out of my floral comfort zone to try some other themes.”
